Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Afro Classics Register a club only for black people?
    • The criteria for membership is not based on an individual’s skin colour but on their cultural heritage.  We welcome members of all races provided that they are of African or Caribbean heritage.  There are many other clubs in the UK that are focussed on membership with ‘protected characteristics’.

  • I am white can I join the club?
    • Membership of the club is based on an individual's cultural heritage and not the colour of their skin.

  • Why do you need to have an African and Caribbean classic car club?
    • We are one of many car clubs embracing the ‘protected characteristics’ as defined under the Equality Act 2010.

  • Does the club provide car displays for charity events?
    • The club will make all reasonable efforts to support charitable endeavours and community-based events.

  • What type of events have you taken part in?
    • The club takes part in many different types of events, for example, Classic Car Boot Sale, Radiate Windrush Festival, Lambeth Country Show, Bromley Motoring Pageant, OneLove Festival, Classic Car Drive-in (Bicester Heritage) to name a few.

  • How old does a car need to be to be considered a classic?
    • It is generally accepted that cars of 25-years or older are deemed classics, whilst those of 40+ years are referred to as Vehicles of Historic Interest (VHI) and benefit from zero tax and ULEZ exemption. In many cases the organisers of events (and not the club) will determine the criteria for cars that they wish us to display.

  • How can I support the club?
    • The club currently has an annual membership fee of £40. However, we appreciate donations of all types in support of our activities and growth (e.g. identifying events, coordinating events, writing articles for the website, etc) - members are encouraged to get involved in the running of the club.

  • What happens if my car is damaged or stolen at an event?
    • Whilst it is rare for damage to occur at events, it is important that members and supporters of the club remain vigilant at displays.Ultimately cars are displayed at each owner’s risk.

  • How many events do Members need to attend?
    • We appreciate that members have many competing priorities on their time; ideally we would like members to attend at least 4 events per year as well as the Annual Bromley Pageant of Motoring in June.
